What is Multi-Factor authentication (MFA) and Self Service Password Reset (SSPR)?

Multi-factor Authentication prompts you for an additional form of identification, such as a code from a text message or the Microsoft Authenticator app, when signing in. MFA has become a common authentication method to protect against user credential theft. Research has shown that MFA can prevent 99% of attacks on accounts.

Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) is a tool for you to quickly reset your account password. SSPR uses the same devices that you have configured for MFA.

Important Information:

  • If you lose your mobile device or change phone numbers that are used for MFA and require assistance resetting your devices – you will be required to come to the Help Desk (Building T – T520). Please have identification ready and prepared to answer security questions.
  • The Help Desk at Moraine Valley will be phasing out password reset over the phone and SSPR will be used to reset your password. Help Desk will provide assistance using SSPR and accessing your account.
  • You will not be prompted for MFA while on campus and connected to WiFi.
