First Time Setup for Remote Calling Using Jabber

Overview

This article will show you how to setup for remote calling using Jabber. If your account was set up to allow calls to be placed and received using Jabber off-campus, there is a small change that will need to be made to allow those calls to flow through your laptop. This will not be necessary if your laptop was set up and tested while on-site in T building.
Prior to making these changes, your laptop must be connected to the internet.

Steps

These are the steps that must be followed.

1. Open up Jabber, and click on the gear icon in the upper right corner

 

2. Select “Sign out” from the drop down menu that appears

 

3. After a few moments, a “Sign In” button will appear. Click the Sign In button

 

4. After 1—15 seconds, Jabber should be fully loaded. Click on the phone icon in the lower left corner of the Jabber window

 

5. In the pop up menu that appears, hover over “Use my computer for calls” and a second menu will pop out to the side. Click on “Use my computer for calls” in this second menu

 

6. To place a call, either search for the MVCC employee in the search bar at the top of the Jabber window or type in the phone number as if you were calling from a normal desk phone, dialing 9 first, then 1, followed by the area code and number (e.g. 917085551212)
