3. Check your Extensions and Plugins

Browser extensions are small software programs that add functionality to a web browser. Extensions are intended to enhance your browsing experience, but they can also be potential security risks.

  • Some extensions may track your browsing habits, collect personal data, or share information with third parties.
  • Malicious extensions can install malware, which may compromise your device or steal sensitive information.
  • Certain extensions can be designed to mimic legitimate services, tricking users into providing sensitive information.

 

Only install extensions from reputable sources, read the reviews, stay up to date, and remove them when they are no longer needed. Extensions can create icons in the upper right of your browser. If you do not recognize one of these icons you should remove them immediately.

 

How to check extensions in Chrome:

  1. Choose the circular icon with three dots in te top right corner of Chrome.
  2. Choose "Extensions" and then "Manage Extensions"
  3. Review this list of Extensions and remove any that you are not familiar with or no longer need.

 

How to check extensions in Firefox:

  1. Choose the three horizontal lines in the top right of Firefox.
  2. Select "Add-ons and themes".
  3. Select "Extensions".
  4. To remove any unwanted to extensions, choose the three dots within the extensions.
  5. Select "Remove".
