Give your teams the freedom to be productive from anywhere, on any device, with Cisco Jabber. Cisco Jabber lets you access presence, instant messaging (IM), voice, video, voice messaging, desktop sharing, and conferencing. Now you can find the right people, see if and how they are available, and collaborate using your preferred method.

Jabber is capable of placing and receiving phone calls off-campus; however, 911 emergency calls should never be placed with Jabber. Off-campus emergencies should always be placed using a home or cell phone.

04/30/2021 - Version 12.9.5 Release - The latest version of Jabber includes a redesigned interface and updated security. All of the features from the previous version are still included with the latest release. The most noticeable difference you will encounter is Jabber now will work as a single window. Previously, the Jabber client and chat windows were separate. Now they are combined into one providing an easier experience managing the application. Review the information below to learn more about the latest release.


1. Open Jabber

Search "Jabber" from the start menu. Select "Cisco Jabber". Sign in with your username@morainevalley.edu and password.


2. Jabber Client

         

  1. Search and Dial Bar – Search for users to chat with or enter a phone number to dial. Enter 9 first for outside calls.*
  2. Tab Views
    1. Contacts- Save users to contacts for fast communication
    2. Chats - Display recent conversations
    3. Rooms- Display chat rooms. Chat rooms are used for conversations with more than two people.
    4. Calls- Show recent call history.
    5. Meetings - Display meeting scheduled from your Outlook Calendar
    6. Settings- General settings and Sign out location
    7. Voicemail - View your voicemail for your extension. Deleting messages here will remove them from both your voicemail box and email.
    8. Presence Status- (See below) Select your icon in the top right to change your status. Your status will automatically change to "In a meeting" while in a meeting or "On a call" during a phone call. You can also create a custom status. You can add a status that you are at campus, the room you are in, or if you are out of the office. Work with your co workers to develop ways to benefit each other!
      1. Grey- Offline
      2. Green- Online
      3. Orange- Away
    9. Calling Option- Set the Jabber client to use either your computer headset and microphone for calls or your desk phone. This menu is also used for forwarding your phone.

*Microphone and speakers (Or headset) is required

 


 

3. Chat Interface

                            

 

In top right select the three dots to expand addition options:

  1. Call User - Top right select the Green circular icon to call the person you are chatting with.
  2. Schedule a meeting - This will open your Outlook calendar and prepare you to schedule a meeting with the participant.
  3. Share Screen - The square with the arrow pointing up will share your screen with the person you are chatting with..
  4. Open Roster - This will display a list of participants in the chat.

                                                                            

  1. Attach File - Attach a file for the participant to download.
  2. Screen Capture - Take a screen shot of your screen and send to the participant.
  3. Font - Choose to edit your font.
  4. Emoticon - Send a smile!
