Microsoft document encryption

To encrypt a document using a sensitivity label:

1. Choose the "Home" tab.

2. Select "Sensitivity" and then "Confidential".

3. A permissions window will appear.  Enter the email address into the Viewer, Restricted Editor, Editor, or Owner fields. Each field includes an explanation what the permissions allow. If you are sharing a document and do not want recipients to make changes to it, use the Viewer option.

4. Select "More Options" to set an expiration date.

5. Select "Apply". Only the specified users can now access the document. Please be aware that sensitivity labels cannot be applied to csv files.

Recipients will open the document by entering either their Microsoft account information. For non Microsoft accounts they will verify their identity by emailing a one time password (OTP) to the email account that was used.
