Multi-factor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your account by requiring more than just a password when you sign in. After entering your password, you will verify your identity using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. MFA helps protect your account even if your password is compromised, reducing the risk of unauthorized access to your email, files and other college resources. 

Important update: Microsoft no longer will be supporting SMS text messages and phone calls for MFA and now will require using the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Beginning Sept. 1, 2026, if you do not have the authenticator app already configured, you will be prompted by the Microsoft MFA Registration Wizard to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app upon sign-in. You will be able to skip this prompt for a limited time; however, completion of setup as soon as possible is strongly encouraged. If the Authenticator app is not configured by January 2027, you may be unable to sign in and could be locked out of your account until a supported authentication method is configured.

1. Sign into an application, such as your college email, using your email: username@student.morainevalley.edu and password.
2. Microsoft will send a notification to the Microsoft Authenticator app on your device.
3. Open the notification on your mobile device and enter the two-digit code that appears on your screen.
