Using Cisco Jabber to Make Phone Calls

Body

Overview

Cisco Jabber is Moraine Valley's Unified Collaboration tool that can be used to chat with your colleagues and make phone calls. In addition to being able to call colleagues using their extension, you can make calls outside the college. Jabber allows you to use your work phone while being offsite without having to use your personal number. Please note that if do not want to use Jabber and would rather have your work extension forwarded to your personal devices, you may do so. Please fill out the Make a Request Form on ITConnect for assistance. You will need Sign In in the upper-right while in ITConnect.

Steps

To use Jabber as your phone, you will need a microphone. A webcam is optional. Please note that most computers with a built-in webcam also have an internal microphone that you can use. If using the computer's microphone, please connect headphones or ear buds to your computer. This will help prevent the person on the receiving end from hearing an echo. Please follow the section below that best fits what you are looking to do.

1. Change your calling options. Click on the phone icon in lower-left of Jabber. Choose "Use my computer for calls."

If you do not see that option, or it is not working correctly, please contact the Help Desk at x4357. If it is not urgent, you can also submit a ticket via the Make a Request Form and someone will follow up shortly.

2. Check your audio options. Click the Settings icon, and then, Audio.

3. Test your speaker. Click the Play button. If you hear audio, your speaker is working. If it is not, use the drop-down to select a working speaker.

4. Test your microphone. Look at the bar and begin talking. If you see see blue levels, your microphone is working. If it is not, use the drop-down to select a working microphone.

Please note: If you are using Moraine-issued ear buds, you will need to plug them into the headphone jack on your computer and select Headset (with microphone). In Jabber audio options, please make sure the Realtek Audio option is selected.

Step 7. Click Apply and then, OK.

5. Make a phone call. Use the Search bar to search or call your colleagues. Search by last name. Click the green phone icon. To make an outside call, you must dial 9, and then, 1. For example: 917085555555
